Ethiopia and Zambia are working on developing bilateral relations said Francis Simenda Zambian Ambassador to Ethiopia.
The two nations are taking measures to enhance existing relations he explained speaking at an event organized in Addis Ababa to commemorate the 48th Anniversary of Zambian Independence.
Ethiopia and Zambia have agreement on diplomatic, economic and technical cooperation which were recently signed into effect said Simenda.
The agreements open the door for the establishment of a Joint Permanent Commission of Cooperation expected to offer a solid foundation for various mutually beneficial initiatives, he explained. The joint efforts of the two countries are also intended to be beneficial to the continent at large added the Ambassador.
The two countries are also in the process of conducting discussions to launch a Southern Regional hub for Ethiopian Airlines in Zambia he noted.
The hub should be a major step towards the integration of Africa as it will offer a more effective and efficient means of transport for travelers, goods and services between the Eastern and Southern parts of the continent said Simenda.
The celeberation of the Zambian Independence day was attended by the chairperson of the African Union Commission, high level government officials and international diplomats. http://www.2merkato.com
