Kaizen Awards Three Ethiopian Companies

Kaizen Ethiopia awarded the ‘Kaizen Award’ to three Ethiopian companies for the first time. The three companies which received the award are Kadisco Chemical Industry, Zenith Gebse-Eshet Ethiopia Ltd and Maru Metal Industry. The companies were awarded for showing the most significant improvement in productivity through utilizing the Kaizen Philosophy.
The three companies were selected from a highly competitive pool because of the notable improvement seen in the quality of their products, increased productivity, improved safety conditions and the enhanced relationship between management and employees said Gethaun Tadesse, Director General of Kaizen Ethiopia, speaking at the awards ceremony held at the Ethiopia Hotel earlier this week. The companies were also able to demonstrate a stronger culture of teamwork which contributed to higher profits he noted. The awardees have shown significantly increased productivity and better quality by means of utilizing the Kaizen Philosophy which inculcates a sense of ownership in the thought processes of the workers said Mekonnen Manyazewal, Minister for Industry. A pilot project run over more than 18 months (2009-2011) was utilized to prove the uses of the Kaizen method in the work of 30 companies in Ethiopia. The pilot project was designed and evaluated by JICA consultants and Kaizen.
