Ethiopia and Norway signed a 23 million birr grant agreement on Thursday last week (November 1st) to support the Access to Justice Project. The agreement was signed by Ahmed Shide, Finance and Economic Development State Minister, and Odd-Ingle Kvalheim, Norwegian Ambassador to Ethiopia.
The Access to Justice Project aims at creating and expanding a network of legal aid service providers to ensure the provision of an efficient legal aid service in Ethiopia. This will allow the poor to have access to legal advice and information as well as promoting awareness and implementation of human rights laws through research, training and sharing of best practice. The project will be implemented by Center for Human Rights and the College of Law and Governance Studies of Addis Ababa University, and will be for a two year period.
