Addis Ababa — Prime Minister Haile-Mariam Dessalegn yesterday held talks with Iranian Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Akbar Salehi who arrived here earlier in the day on a day-long visit.
The talks focused on ways of enhancing existing bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Iran and also issues related to the 6th Ethio-Iran Joint Ministerial Conference.
Foreign Affairs Ministry Middle East Affairs Acting Director-General Dr. Abdulkadir Risku told ENA that efforts are underway to bolster existing relations between the two countries in the economic, trade and cultural sectors.
According to Dr. Abdulkadir, Iranian investors are involved in about 50 projects in Ethiopia. The Director said the Ethio-Iran Joint Ministerial Commission was formed in 1999. Ethiopia and Iran established diplomatic relations in 1950.
Upon arrival at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport the Minister was welcomed by Trade State Minister Ali Siraj, officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Iranian diplomats in Ethiopia.
