New Women Soccer League to kick off next month


Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Ethiopian Football Federation  (EFF) has announced that a new Women Soccer League, comprising 15 teams, will kick off in the country next month, reported the English weekly newspaper, Capital Ethiopia.
The resurgence of women soccer in the country has prompted the EFF to establish the league,which is expected to improve the country’s standard.
The 15 teams are drawn from 3 regions, with the nation’s capital Addis Ababa, fielding 8 teams. The south and eatern regions will have 3 and 4 teams respectively.
Addis Ababa (8)
Group A: Dedebit FC, Ethiopian Insurance, Ethiopian Coffee & EEPCO
Group B: CBE, Defence Force, Water Works and St. George FC.
South: (3)
Arba Minch Kenema, Sidama Coffee & Hawassa Kenema.
East (4):
Harar Beer, Adama Kenema, Mugher Cement & Dire Dawa Kenema.

Addis Ababa
The eight teams from the capital are drawn in two groups with the top seeds being Dedebit FC and defending champions Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE). Dedebit spearheads Group A with Ethiopian Coffee (back in the Premier League), Ethiopian Insurance and the newly formed EEPCO women’s soccer club.
With nine national team players in its roster, CBE leads Group B, which Defence Force, St. George and the newly promoted Water Works Sport.
The season’s opening match will be between the favorites Dedebit, which has four national team players, including all time leading goal scorer both at club and national level, Birtukan G/Kristos, and the new comers EEPCO, who will be led by former “Lucy” assistant coach Theodros Ayele and his assistant Melese Seyoum.
South
Arba Minch Kenema, Sidama Coffee & Hawassa Kenema.
East
The eastern Zone will have four teams including favorite Dire Dawa Kenema, the only side from the national league, which took part in last season’s women’s premier league fixtures.
