Ethiopia: Childfund Launches 148 Million Birr Programme


Addis Ababa — ChildFund Ethiopia yesterday launched a three year strategic programme designed to improve the well-being of deprived, vulnerable and excluded children as well as families in target areas in Addis .

The organization also announced that it has already allocated close to 148 million birr for the implementation of the programme which will be carried out with partner organizations.

Addis Ababa Area Coordinator Sisay Worku said that the strategic programme was designed following rigorous research and identification of child vulnerability in various parts of the city with the participation of children.


Partner organizations implementing the programme include Arada Child and Family Development Organization, Sheger Child and Development Charitable Society, Merkato Child and Fmily Charitable Society, Kore Child and Family Development Organization, as well as the Ethiopian Orthodox Church-Child and Family Development Organization.

According to Sisay , the study indicated that child vulnerability in different parts of the city ranges from sex abuse and child labour to lack of proper nutrition." Hence, the strategic plan was designed in a way to addresses specific problems in different parts of the city."

The components of the strategic plan include, among others, rehabilitation of abused children, facilitation of educational opportunities and building family income.

Organization Country Director Charless Danzoll said that the implementation of the strategic plan will also contribute to the realization of the national Growth and Transformation Plan( GTP).

ChildFund belongs to the bigger family of ChildFund International, which operates in 31 countries.
