MTN Ethiopia (legal name “MTN ICT SERVICE PLC.”) celebrates Ethiopia’s long-awaited re-entry into the Africa Cup of Nations. Today, the company launched its campaign, appropriately called “Celebrate 31 on 831 with MTN Ethiopia” - a four week SMS quiz-based competition where five winners will win an all expenses paid trip to South Africa in January to watch the Opening ceremony and Ethiopia’s opening game at the Tournament. Through the launch of this campaign, MTN aims to celebrate Ethiopia’s qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 31 years, to incorporate Ethiopian football as part of MTN’s football program, and to promote its brand in the Ethiopian market.
“MTN Ethiopia is pleased to be engaging in this campaign in support of the people of Ethiopia, especially in this momentous time in Ethiopian football history,” said MTN Ethiopia Country Manager, Ms. Happy-Girl Buthelezi during the campaign launch.
“MTN looks forward to being part of Ethiopian football through continued support for its growth and development,” she added.
The SMS Competition features an entertaining football-related quiz, which will be available in two languages, in Amharic and English. To start playing: mobile subscribers will send the keyword “OK” to 831 on their phones, they receive a welcome and can select their language preference and answer the first multiple choice question; to confirm their entry, the participant receives a lottery ticket. They continue their participation by answering a series of multiple choice questions and receive a lottery ticket for each entry per response answer sent, whether the answer is right or wrong.
During the four week period of the campaign, the lottery tickets are stored in the database pool for the weekly random draw (total of four weekly winners). In addition to the four weekly winners, and on the last day of the campaign, the system will select a fifth winner based on the highest score of correct answers during the entire campaign period.
MTN will award five winners each a prize consisting of a free round-trip ticket to South Africa, three nights’ accommodation in South Africa, tickets to the opening ceremony and to Ethiopia’s opening game in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
MTN Ethiopia has acquired a trade license from Ethiopia Investment Agency and has also attained its Value Added Services (VAS) license from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, and is in the process of finalizing its plans to offer services in Ethiopia under the VAS License.
MTN Group Limited, the parent company of MTN Ethiopia, is a multinational mobile communications and ICT company with operational presence in 23 countries in Africa and the Middle East and has over 180 million subscribers.
