Addis Ababa — The National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) said the petition filed by opposition political parties requesting to set up a joint forum to find solution to problems in the process of elections will be considered if there is legal ground.

The Board said it has discussed with higher leadership of the political parties on issues related to the time table for the election of local and the Addis Ababa City Administration councils to be held next April.

Board Public Relation Coordination Head Yeshi Fekade told ENA that senior leaders of 66 political parties took part at the joint forum organized by the Board in Adama Town of Oromia State on October 25,2012.

Yeshi said 34 of the total political parties, which took part in the discussion forum requested the Board to organize a joint forum to find solution to problems in the process of the elections.

She said the Board, established as a free and neutral institution with the aim to ensure a multiparty system in the country, is ready to consider the request of the political parties if there is legal ground.

Since its establishment, the Board has organized different consultative forums for political parties to discuss on various national issues.

It has also carried out various activities with the active participation of political parties and also managed to hold successful elections, she said.
